Network Manager

I downloaded the Beta DVD x64 and installed it on a laptop with KDE desktop. The laptop has openSUSE 13.2 on it and I can access Network Manager from
System Settings -> Network and connectivity -> Network Settings -> Network connections.
I the Beta version of LEAP, I can get to Network settings but this only has Windows share Samba available. Please can anyone tell me how to get to the Network Connections bit?
Thank you in advance.

That’s not necessary. Just click on the NetworkManager icon in your system tray.
To get to the connection editor, click on the “wrench” icon in the top right corner of the popup.

The same.
But make sure that NetworkManager is actually running, otherwise you won’t see the applet.

For further clarification, here’s a screenshot from the KDE4 version, the Plasma5 applet looks similar:

Thank you for this.

It appears that Network Manager is not running. I cannot see how to start it; or how to check that it is running. There is no icon on the taskbar.

Start “Services Manager” and the ncheck status (‘show details’ for more
info and start/enable the service.

In this endeavor there is no loss or diminution,
and a little advancement on this path can protect

That’s one possibility, but if you do this, you maybe would also have to disable all Wicked related services so that not both are running.

It’s better to use YaST->Network Devices->Network Settings->Global Options to switch between Wicked and NetworkManager.
I think the Network Settings have been moved to a different locations in Leap’s YaST though, cannot look now as I don’t have a Leap installation here. But you should be able to find it I hope, use the search field if in doubt.

On LEAP, the new location is

YAST > System > Network Settings
Then you should see the familiar interface. Click on the “Global Options” tab to switch between Wicked and Network Manager.

TSU

Thank you very much for your help. I did check and Network Manager was enabled while Wickd was disabled.

The situation is SOLVED! The login screen had the iceWM manager. Changing this to Plasma5 gave me the Network Manager icon on the Task Bar and I can configure the wireless network easily.
