network manager wifi lost

This seems to happen from time to time and not sure why. I will be connected to a wireless network, and then leave my machine and when i come back to it later, the connection is disconnected, so i click on wireless network manager and want to reconnect to my network, only to find that the wireless network is not showing!. Have tried turning wireless switch off and then back on again in the hope that it will detect the wiress network, but nothing. The other thing that is strange is that the option for enable wireless is ticked. Have also tried unticking that and re ticking it, to no affect. But if you go to the hidden wireless network and type your network name in, it will come up asking you for the password, so you put that in, and it connects to the network! if i want to be able to see the wireless networks, i have to restart machine.

I have not experienced this.
Is your AP unusual in any way? What wireless device do you use (is it USB PCI?)

Have you set the connection to automatic and as a system connection

It is probably driver dependent. It would be good if you posted your
‘/sbin/lspci -nnv’ for your device (if PCI) or lsusb if USB.

When the condition happens, you can probably get the entries back by
‘/usr/sbin/iwlist scan’ from a terminal.

my connections are set for automatic connection, but not set as system connection. My AP has never given any problems. Am connecting from my laptop that has an internal wireless card, and my laptop is an HP pavillion dv6000 on suse 13.1

IWfinger, will give the terminal option a try the next time it happens.

Usually, you can uncheck “Enable wireless”. Then, a few minutes later, check it again for a fresh start.

I have an older machine where that does not work. Rebooting is the only way to get back access. There’s probably something happening on the WiFi card that needs a hardware reset to get it going again.
