Hello - Having a hard time getting NM to detect wireless usb device: Linksys model WUSB600N. Here are a few commands I do know about. Thank you for the support.
iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
irda0 no wireless extensions.
ndiswrapper -l
WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/ndiswrapper, it will be ignored in a future release.

After some searching I eventually found info that suggests the device uses rt2870 chip. Even windows users seem to be having trouble with it.
It may work, as mentioned here: HCL:Network (Wireless) - openSUSE
First link mentions: Must install package kernel-firmware. Configure module rt2870sta to load at boot. Works great with Network Manager. How do I do this?
On the second link: ran these commands, but unable to config
/usr/sbin/iwconfig wlan0 | grep Mb
wlan0 No such device
sudo /usr/sbin/iwlist scan
lo Interface doesn’t support scanning.
eth0 Interface doesn’t support scanning.
irda0 Interface doesn’t support scanning.
The driver is there, I installed it with ndiswrapper:
ndiswrapper -l
WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/ndiswrapper, it will be ignored in a future release.
rt2870 : driver installed
device (1737:0079) present
ndiswrapper is a solution for using windows drivers in Linux and I wouldn’t recommend it, only as a last option anyway.
kernel-firmware is a package available via software manager. Go to Yast > Software > Software Management
search for kernel-firmware, check to install. Then reboot
We may have to remove whatever you did with ndiswrapper
OK - I removed the driver that was set up with ndiswrapper:
ndiswrapper -l
WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/ndiswrapper, it will be ignored in a future release.
rt2870 : driver installed
device (1737:0079) present
linux-1mbq:~ # ndiswrapper -r rt2870
linux-1mbq:~ # ndiswrapper -l
I will download the kernal via Yast and reboot as recommended - I will repost results
The driver is in staging?

I don’t know the answer to this
You need the writer of the wireless guide @lwfinger to help
My Son has a rt2870 but he uses PCLinuxOS and it works there no problems
It’s generally not the done thing to PM people for help.
Though people do PM me all the time, not users welcome it.
lwfinger is usually keeping an eye on things, though I have not seen him about very recently.
thank you it looks like it worked - the network manager is now showing wireless, but no access points yet. Are there other commands I need to run so that the NM picks up the access points?
