I am using a CDMA based mobile broadband connection. I had some problems trying to make it work because I couldn’t find the connection editor window where I’d put my login and password for the connection. In the end I just ran it from console.
However, now that the connection is set and working, there is still a problem. Even though I am able to access internet and everything, the network manager icon in the top right corner still shows that I am completely disconnected. Not that it’s hindering in any way, but it distracts in the context that I am used to having it show the cool connection established icon…
Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong and how to cater for that?
So either you allow Network manager to control your network or you use ifup/down and so forth to do it manually. Perhaps you disabled Network Manager in order to use the console commands? You can check in YaST / Network Device / Network Settings and look on the Global Options tab to see if the “Traditional Method with ifup” bullet is selected. You must switch to “User Controlled with NetworkManager” for the NM icon to work when loaded. You did not mention openSUSE version or Desktop version that you are using.
Thank You,
Configure the connection using NetworkManager applet of choice. Here’s a guid for KDE and I think it might give You a hint on how to configure this :
