My laptop sits about five feet from the wi-fi router. On boot-up, with the Ethernet cable connected, both the wired and wi-fi connections are enabled, first the wired and then the wi-fi. Is this normal behavior?
That’s what I would expect if you have the WiFi connection configured for auto-connect.
For my laptop, since it is usually connected with ethernet, I have turned off auto-connect for the home WiFi. So it only uses ethernet. But I have auto-connect turned on for a connection that I sometimes use when travelling – because I want to use WiFi there, and I don’t bring an ethernet cable with me.
Thanks. That was the issue - both wi-fi connections (5 and 2.4 GHz) were set to automatically connect and the wi-fi module grabbed one of them. I disabled auto connect on both, rebooted, and the unit connected only on the Ethernet. Now, I have to remember to re-enable the auto connect option or manually connect wi-fi when I’m not using the wired connection.
