Network manager and WICD misconfigure WEP

Hi,

I have a rtl8192e card and the drivers and everything are set up properly. I can not connect to WEP encrypted networks using network manager. I can however connect using iwconfig and dhcpcd. I uninstalled network manager and installed WICD and have the same problem. It will connect to the access point when it is configured with WPA, but not WEP which we need to use for the other computer. In the status bar of WICD it looks like it is trying to configure the encryption as WPA no matter what I select. I’ve looked in the config files for WICD and can’t see anything that would do it.

Not really a massive problem as I can connect manually to WEP encrypted networks and use WICD for anything else, but small things bug me :expressionless: Anyone have any ideas on what I can do to correct it?

I don’t use wicd and cannot comment on it, but NetworkManager CAN connect to WEP
networks. You likely have misconfigured the key. Are you sure you used the
hexadecimal key? A passphrase will not work.

When you post a problem, always include what version of openSUSE you are using.

Opensuse 11.3

Key is not wrong. I know the difference between passphrase and key and can say with 100% certainty that it is not user error. It is not the only wep encrypted network it will not connect to.

well ok, 99%. i checked and re-checked over and over again. Guess ill just make a script to connect to wep, so inelegant though :stuck_out_tongue:
