Network issues on openSuse 11

I created a dual boot Win xp /opensuse machine a couple of months ago but for one reason or another didn’t get to work much with it till now. The network worked fine then but yesterday when I booted up it no longer worked.
Using the Yast Network settings does not work for me. It also stops at the next to last setting with a curl error when it goes to write the settings I’ve made. Networking is not a problem when I boot into Windows.
I’ve run ifconfig and lspci and get “command not found”
This is my ifcfg-eth0 file:
BOOTPROTO=‘dhcp’
BROADCAST=’’
ETHTOOL_OPTIONS=’’
IPADDR=’’
MTU=’’
NAME=‘82562ET/EZ/GT/GZ - PRO/100 VE (LOM) Ethernet Controller’
NETMASK=’’
NETWORK=’’
REMOTE_IPADDR=’’
STARTMODE=‘auto’
USERCONTROL=‘no’

I’ve used the connection widget in the bottom corner to create a connection and that works fine but it seems to disconnect after some period of time.

I’m using DHCP wired to a dhcp router to a dsl modem.

Suggestions appreciated.

try using yast with traditional setup…no network manager. set
gateway to your router address. select dhcp for all other. You may
also need to list your router as the dns server. This is near identical to my setup. If you need static IP then you can also
set that up in Yast…but most people dont need it.
