Network Installation for 13.2 - Does not connect to the internet

I’m currently using 13.1 and have attempted to upgrade/install 13.2.

Here’s the problem. After booting from a CD with the network version of 13.2, no connection is made to the internet (via an ethernet) either automatically via DCHP or by plugging in the various IP addresses of DNS’s, gateways etc. that it asks for if you try to do it manually. Perhaps I’ve entered some wrong addresses but I’d have thought it should find the internet automatically.

When doing this for previous new versions of OpenSuse the internet has been found and connected automatically. The remaining part of the installation was presented with a GUI. The new one (13.2) seems to be a text based system. I note that the new Network iso is only about 79MB whereas the previous one was about 200MB so presumably the new one does substantially less (?).

Any ideas on how to connect to the internet so that the installer can find the relevant files to download and install?

Thanks
John

Hard to tell without a bit more info, but my first question is, does it act as if the installation ‘frozen’? I also used the ‘Network’ version and it seemed to have gotten stuck at the three little squares. Thought I had a bad iso so I downloaded again, checked the MD5 and SHA1 values (for some reason it passed MD5 but not SHA1, oh well). Same thing, stuck at 3 little squares. Got side tracked with something else and about 30 minutes later, I noticed it had gotten past the 3 little squares and was now installing (heavy load on servers maybe?). Like you, left it at DHCP during install. After the install I went into Yast and setup the static IP info, etc. During the whole process, it was thru GUI, nothing text based.

As to the size of the iso, my guess (and this is only a guess) is that 13.2 is smaller because it is getting more from the network and less from the iso.

So, if it seems like it’s not loading, perhaps the situation is like mine, if so, start the installation, go make a sandwich, grab a beer and watch a little TV, then check back.

Thanks for the comments.
No it doesn’t act as if it is frozen in the sense that it is trying to do something but can’t - it seems rather to have attempted and failed to connect to the internet and then can’t do anything further. It gets passed the 3 green squares to a blue screen and then says “Please make sure your installation medium is available. Retry? Yes or No” Yes, just returns one to the same screen and No takes one to a keyboard selection then to the Main Menu where there are 4 possibilities: Start installation, Settings, Expert, Exit or Reboot.

I’ve just been through the process again as above to explain what was happening. However, after pressing Start Installation and then the next few screens low and behold it went all the way correctly to the GUI installer and is now being installed!!!

So thanks for that it has enabled me to get going! I must have been through every permutation of options expect the right one! Looks like the Network installer could be a little bit more straight forward.

Glad you got it working!!

I also get a screen saying “Please make sure your installation medium is available. Retry?”. I’m not sure what to do.

I used Rufus to put the iso into my usb drive.

When I select “No”, and go to the Main Menu with Start Installation > Installation > Harddrive > sdb1 >
It asks for the root directory and I don’t know what the root directory is.

What am I supposed to do?

Are you using the NET installer over WiFi?

If you are, then this is a known bug. Either plug in an ethernet cable and try again, or use the DVD installer.
