Network install

Following on from rehunn’s “Boxed Release Date” thread, I decided not to wait for my boxed DVD to arrive and today tried a Network install. It was the easiest install I’ve done! From downloading the Network install CD, to burning it and doing the install, took about 1 hour all in. rotfl!

I used network install for 11.0 x86 on a pc that didn’t have a dvd drive and never had a problem. Just a bit disappointed that it didn’t give an option for changing the install site so I could mount the dvd locally and install over the local net.

Sure you can. Just change the network method to something other than HTTP with F4. You’d have to export the DVD contents from another machine using NFS or SMB though.
