Newbie here who has read everything he could find but hasn’t found an answer yet. If I missed something, please point me in that direction.
I am attempting to do a network install on a very old laptop (no DVD drive). I get as far as the HTTP specifics, and usually I come up with a “No Repository Found.” However, sometimes it goes so far as to download parts of the “Installation System.” It gets as far as 2/6 and then freezes. Other times it gets as far as setting up the partition, only to then end with an error.
I have verified the installation media from the installation menu. It comes up good.
I think you’d better verify the medium to install to. What is ‘very old’? Is it a piece of junk that won’t run anything anymore, so let’s see if linux repairs it?
One thing is for sure: if you want a stable openSUSE you at least require stable hardware. And yours ‘feels’ not stable from here.
The laptop is a Commdore Armada M700 which still runs fine (though slow) with Windows. Decided to retask it to a “writing only” laptop, and so getting rid of almost everything. Thought I would see how it runs with OpenSUSE.
Stable hardware? It is with Windows. Wondering why not with OpenSUSE.
Do you perhaps mean the Compaq Armada? How much RAM do you have? If <= 256 MB, you might struggle a bit to get it installed. For good results, you really want at least 512 MB. Or a lighter distro.
I’m back. Thinking it should be possible to get openSUSE installed. Are you sure the installer stalls (I saw it “take a break” for 10 minutes this afternoon)? Can you be more specific about the hardware in the Armada? Does it have enough free disk space?
