Network Configuration

I have a network card eth0 on board on my laptop. I have been assigned a static IP address and use that to connect to the internet, at least from windows.
Today I installed OpenSUSE 11.1 and tried configuring my network card. I used the default through YAST and I used the network Manager.
I found that the network connections are set the way I want using Network Manager. Now however after doing all this, I am still unable to connect to the internet using Firefox or any other application.

I am facing this issue in both KDE and GNOME.

I managed to some how get it to connect to my router but the connection still fails when I try to connect to the internet.

Info from the HCL about the device says the following:
Don’t worry that it refers to 11.0, just try it

11.0 Native kernel driver. First check if b43-fwcutter is installed, if not install it, then run as root the included script: install_bcm43xx_firmware from the /usr/sbin directory. You have to be already connected to the Internet to run the script. Restart your system to load the driver.[/size]

sorry buddy, but this just does not work. :frowning:
i told you already, the drivers seem to be fine. that is because i am able to connect to the router using the ip 192.168.1.2, mask 255.255.255.0 and default gateway of 192.168.1.1. but when replacing the same settings with a static IP of XXX.XXX.X.XXX, mask of 255.255.255.XXX gateway of XXX.XXX.X.YYY, preferred DNS of XXX.XX.XX.XXX alternate DNS XXX.XX.YY.Y i am unable to connect to the internet. Let me point out the fact that these same settings work in Windows and Ubuntu. :frowning: I am able to browse the net using these settings in both these operating systems.

OK, you said:

I have been assigned a static IP address and use that to connect to the internet

So how do you mean? Static from the LAN side? or are you talking about static from your ISP?

Either way, you should still be using DHCP from the wireless side settings in networkmanager, as any fixed IP in the LAN is controlled by the router according to your MAC address.

Static IP from ISP’s have nothing to do with this at all.

I meant I have been assigned a static IP to connect to the internet by my ISP. I use this in my LAN settings. Anyways i worked it around by reinstalling the system and doing manual configuration against automatic.

Hi.
Try to disable your SuSE Firewall.
