Network Card not found after installing suse

I think this has happened in ubuntu before, but if I, in my newbieness, understood something is that the problem is linux kernel, so I suppose my problem is very similar.

I installed Ubuntu some time ago, but I didn’t like it for many reasons that are not relevant to the case, but when I did, I had this problem too. When I booted up to Windows XP SP3, ethernet dissapeared. I didn’t panic and booted to ubuntu to try to find a sollution, but the same thing happened.

I disconnected everything, as I thought the integrated NIC was damaged, and when I connected again, everything worked fine. Sadly, as I mentioned before, I didn’t like Ubuntu (or maybe Gnome), so I uninstalled it like a day after, not knowing if the bug would happen again.

Yesterday I installed openSUSE with KDE and when installing, network worked fine. Then after the install (and restart), there was no network (no NIC) detected on suse. I restarted on Windows and the same happened. I went to sleep (it was 7am), and when I woke up (at 8) I booted up on suse and it worked fine. Didn’t use windows the whole day.

I’m at school now, but my cousin reported me, no network card detected under windows today. I wouldn’t post this here seeing that many solutions in Ubuntu forums, but the problem is, many of them appear to have the problem on Ubuntu, not Windows.

So… I will try to unplug then plug after a minute and tell you what happens. If it works, does anyone knows how can I make the bug dissapear (I’ve read something about r8618 instead of r8619, but don’t know where do I have to do that)

Sorry if something is not clear enough, please remember I’m a newbie at suse and at linux in general, I will provide you with any logs or stuff you need.

Thanks in advance!

So what is the brand/model of computer or motherboard here? For Windows, I can go to the Web site of the manufacturer and download any drivers for built-in hardware and it just works in Windows. While you can kind of end up with Interrupt tag where Windows and Linux keep changing things where a few odd hardware devices may not work when swapping back and forth, but I always got Windows to work if the hardware was not defective.

Thank You,
