Dear all
I have recently installed openSUSE 12.1. And after installion it has failed to read/install the network card. Although it recognizes it (I can see them on the system details)
I am new to OpenSUSe and not finding my way through. Any advise as how to fix this error?
TB, Shavkat
Greetings,
What kind of network card are you having trouble with?
Let’s find out together! Open a terminal (like konsole or xterm) and run the following command:
/sbin/lspci
Copy and paste the output here between the “CODE” brackets, which is represented by the “#” symbol on the message editor.
Cheers!

-=WELCOME=- new user and new poster…gather up your patience
because there is a lot to learn and the slope is steep for a while
it is unfortunate for you that you chose to install openSUSE 12.1
because if sailed past its end-of-life and support on 15 May 2013
(cite: http://en.opensuse.org/Lifetime) and has received
no security patches since…
strongly suggest you move to a currently supported version (today
those are 12.2, 12.3)
after you done that, if you still have trouble with networking we
have a forum named “networking” and another one named “wireless” if
the “network card” you are having trouble is for wi-fi…
if it is a wireless problem (this paragraph does NOT apply if your
machine is wired to the net through a router, modem, cable box, or
ADSL gizmo): at the top of the wireless forum you will find three
‘stickies’…read them all and follow the appropriate
instructions–those usually solve the most common problems and if
you can’t do that without assistance, NO problem but do make your
help request into the correct forum, and give the info the stickies
ask for…

Not so, I did a
zypper patch
yesterday on my 12.1 system and four patches were installed. The
previous time patches were installed was last Friday. So even though
no patches were supposed to be issued past it’s end of life they were.

I also strongly agree and have finally decided to upgrade my 12.2
system,
Ken

yes, i am aware that in addition to other inconsistencies with plans,
‘they’ seem to be unable to kill 12.1 on schedule.
and, not only that but ‘they’ can’t even manage to change to a more
correct expected date of end-of-life on http://en.opensuse.org/Lifetime
getting kinda sad.
