Network card does not start on system resume

** This is a question about boot scripts **

I know there must be a thread on this, but I looked around the forum and some how-to’s and could not find a match.

I am running SuSE 11 and have used s2ram since I first installed. I always had a network cable plugged in.

Recently I moved my machine and had to fall back on the wireless card, which works fine.

The trouble is every time I suspend to ram now, the network card fails to start.

I’m sure there is a way I can script some actions to run on resume, but Im not sure what…or where.

ifup does not work because I use knetworkmanager.

Anyone know where an article or thread is that resolves this issue.

What commands are run during boot that activate the card? I can provide any output that is needed to get more insight.

There is an option in knetworkmanager to auto connect

edit your connection and near the end you should see the option.

Or, are you saying it just will not connect again after a suspend.

If you can’t wait for it auto connect, I normally just click on the network icon and then the configured connection and away you go.

Thank you so much for the assistance.

A few things I think I need to clear up.

*I mean to say that after a suspend, the connection fails to start.

*My connection configuration (essid, encryption, etc.) is set in the network settings module of yast, so knetworkmanager just glows a pleasant green, but does not actually show the connection… So I can’t edit through there.
I don’t think this is not a knetwork… issue.

*Furthermore I can not even add a connection as the card itself is down (no light or anything) after suspend.

I am sure that if I can learn the commands used to start the card initially then Knetworkmanager will take over and autoconnect.

Thanks again, I look forward to additional responses.

But a thought. The powersave feature may be causing the issue. Are you using kde3 or kde4. It could be worth trying ‘powerdevil’ a kde4 package. But you need to be at least kde4.1.3 and you have to remove powersave altogether.

Also might be worth trying 1 kernel back to see if that has any effect.

Thanks again for the help.

I have read through the s2ram page in its entirety. Nothing about pci cards except video, and I already implemented those fixes several months back.

Also my system uses pm-utils, and not powersave. Do you know of any issues there?
