Netis USB wifi adapter dropped connection

Hi everyone,

I am new to to Opensuse and Linux in general.

My issue is this:

  • I manage to connect to my wifi network but the connection gets dropped every few minutes and will not reconnect, in fact the manager is still showing my connection as active.

Any help is greatly appreciated, please keep in mind that I am a complete beginner (trying hard to educate myself).

Open a terminal window, and monitor your network connection with

sudo journalctl -fu NetworkManager

Observe/capture relevant output when you believe the connection has dropped.

There are a lot of threads (various distros) suggesting problems with some devices using the rtl8192cu driver. Some users have had better luck compiling newer versions direct from the Realtek site. This is not a task for a new user IMHO.

Instead, given the relatively low cost of USB wireless devices I’d consider purchasing an alternative device NOT using chipsets supported by this particular driver.
