Netgear WG511 and ZyXEL m-102 do load driver...

I am running SUSE 10.3 and cannot get a wireless connection. I have two
working wireless cards (tested under a different O/S) a Netgear WG511
(it has a FCC ID PY3WG511V3 so I suspect it is a WG511V3) and a ZyXEL M-102.

When I plug either of them into the PCMCIA slot and run dmes I get only:
pccard: CardBus card inserted into slot 0

When I eject the card I get:
pccard: card ejected from slot 0

I noticed that when I plug in a different card I get quite different
information. For example I plugged in an Intel MBLA3300 and dmesg gave
this information:

pccard: CardBus card inserted into slot 0
e100: Intel(R) PRO/100 Network Driver, 3.5.17-k4-NAPI
e100: Copyright(c) 1999-2006 Intel Corporation
PCI: Enabling device 0000:01:00.0 (0000 -> 0003)
PCI: Setting latency timer of device 0000:01:00.0 to 64
e100: eth1: e100_probe: addr 0x14020000, irq 11, MAC addr 00:A0:C9:BC:49:C1

So I suspect something more is supposed to happen when the wireless card
is inserted.

I loaded several drivers including madwifi (version 0.9.3.99),
wlan-ng-kmp-default (v 0.2.8_2.6.22.5_31), hostap-utils (0.4.7), and
ndiswrapper-kmp-default (1.47_2.6.22.5_31).

just so we know, when the device is plugged in, open a console & type

**/sbin/lspci -v ** & press enter.
post the relevant section pertaining to your wireless device ( normally near the bottom ) I suspect the ZyXEL will need the firmware/drivers installed from your install media, which are the ZD1211 files. As for netgear, i find it is always problematic getting their hardware to work with most flavours of *nix

01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5005VL

less NIC (rev 01)
Subsystem: Unknown device 0308:3407
Flags: medium devsel, IRQ 11
Memory at 14000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [disabled]

I found the driver for the ZyXEL card and installed it with ndiswrapper.
It did not make any difference. Though the driver was called net5513 not
ZD1211.

the zd1211 drivers/firmware are on the SuSE install media. As for the atheros driver, i believe madwifi cover the drivers for it

I found the zd1211 driver but that is for a USB WLAN stick. Both my
cards are PCMCIA. Do I need to load a USB driver for a PCMCIA card?

I am also having problems with the www.madwifi.org web site. I keep
getting a can’t find error. Also www.madwifi.net is not found. It seems
their DNS server is down.

Ted

you could try the driver from here The Prism54 Project for the zyxel device. Hmm, just looked for madwifi, looks like they have gone down. try again later

Hi, mtmigs

Did you have any Joy?

I am running the WG511T which also uses the atheros chipset.

Via yast do a search for “madwifi” download relevant firmware and madwifi drivers.

I can recommend there help

UserDocs/FirstTimeHowTo - madwifi.org - Trac

hope this helps
