Netbook webcam issue

Hi all.

I am running Suse 11.1. Gnome on a Samsung NC10 netbook.
I have read around the web that its Namuga 1.3M webcam should be recognized out of the box, but I have some problems.
In fact, neither through Cheese nor through F-Spot I manage too see anything, but installing lucview and running the “luvcview -f yuv” command (another suggestion I found wandering in the web) I can see my tired face… So, why is Suse seeing my webcam with some tools and not with some else?

Running the command “dmesg | grep video” I get:

pci 0000:00:02.0: Boot video device
Linux video capture interface: v2.00
uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device Namuga 1.3M Webcam (0ac8:c326)

dmesg | grep Namuga:

Any suggestion?

Kind regards, and thanks in advance for your help!

I’ve been figured that out, too with my built-in Webcam (Chicony USB 2.0 Webcam on Lenovo 3000 N200).
I think it’s not linux itself, but these tools, because they support different WebCam drivers.
I found out that, as i was upgrading to openSUSE 11.1 and i wanted to videochat in kopete.
The new KDE4-kopete wasn’t able to use my webcam, although it was detectet (uvcvideo was automatically installed) and luvcview worked with it well.
Among other things this was a reason for me downgrading to openSUSE 11.0, where kopete recognizes my camera / is able to use it.

Hi i have an nc10 running XP with a Namuga 1.3M webcam. When i try to open the webcam, i get a “an invalid argument was encountered” message and this is repeated when i try to access the resolutin and device settings within the application. Can anyone guide me in a direction that can solve this?

Thanks in advance

Pete
