Need to work on document in OpenSuse and Windows

I need to work on my novel in both Operating Systems. I have WIn7 and OpenSuse 64bit. The novel ‘Chiaroscuro’ is on a NTFS formatted partition. It is written in Windows Office 2010. I have opened the permissions in Windows to allow me to edit it, but its not working. How can I do this please?
Thanks
Tony

Have you setup your openSUSE so as to have write access to NTFS drives ? There is guidance here for that: SDB:NTFS - openSUSE

If you find that confusing, post here the content of /etc/fstab file, and one of our openSUSE members will point to you as to what edits are needed to provide write access to an NTFS drive from openSUSE. (I assume your openSUSE 64-bit is openSUSE-11.3 ??? ).

What is not working? Accessing the file (can’t open …) or reading it?

I’m not sure OpenOffice reads Word 2010 files.
For my father, we’ve set up a config in which his OpenOffice creates .doc
files, which MS Office reads, too. (as an older version. Stay away from the
docx extension version.

When in doubt, use brute force.

TonyBennett;

In addition to the above reference, this HowTo gives precise instruction on
editing /etc/fstab to all the NTFS drive to mount read write.

Should read:

“to allow the NTFS drive to mount read write. The default is read only.”
