Thanks for your patience and replies. I do have the dial tone check off. I have it off in both KPPP and KINTERNET. I did some checking and that is what the ATX3 is.
thanks again, and looking forward to getting this up and running. I did find a script file that was part of the “linux support” from Sierra. But all it looks like it does is load the AT+CGDCONT=1,“IP”,“ISP.CINGULAR” and the ATD99#.
Hi
Can you confirm then what your settings are for errors when it dials…?
I use the cli (just quicker for me) as it gives a bit more control to
start with. Can you create a similar chatscript (see the earlier post)
and a peers one. You do need to know which device you are using. Which
I am assuming you have tried them all, ttyUSB0, USB1 and USB2?

I am still here. This is actually on a friend’s laptop. A brand new linux user. I installed 11.0 on it and he has been loving it. We are just trying to get his aircard working. He couldn’t come by tonight, so we will give it another shot tomorrow. I will post what we get then.
I used to have to use a dial script before openSuSE 11, but now with 11, I just plug in my Sprint USB modem, and I get an option in my Gnome Network Manager to connect to CDMA Network. It’s totally plug and play for me, and works great.
We got it! The trick was the 99**1#. We have it configured in Kinternet. Once we had the modem configured and talking to the system we were hoping it was just a matter of the right command. That was it. Works like a charm and there is now a very happy family of new SuSE linux users. Thanks again for all of the help and patience.
In review, the driver was downloaded from SierraWireless.com (but did not do the kernel patch they suggest). The config works with either KPPP or Kinternet. I prefer Kinternet because it is just simpler to use (one button touch). The modem is set up at /dev/ttyUSB0 (or 1 or 2). The first init string is AT+CGDCONT=1,“IP”,“ISP.CINGULAR”. No wait for dial tone. No specific user or password, because they are hardwired in the aircard’s sim chip. The number to dial is 99**1#.
