need to run windows on leap 15.3

I’m trying to find out the best way to run windows with internet inside of my leap 15.3. I’ve seen posts about virtual box but I have no idea how to set it up or if there are other options. I looked for virtual box for leap 15.3. Found an experimental package but using 1 click install did not work.

Please run the standard Softvare Manager in your system.
You simply type “virtualbox” there, select it for installation and install with all dependeces. That’s all.

thank you I’ll give that a try.

I am successfully using libvirt (QEMU/KVM) to run vms. QEMU/KVM and libvirt available from repos. I have 5 linux’ and also windows 10 vms. Windows 10 runs fine. I am planning to become “scambaiter” and need sleuthed (not showing vm properties) windows to play that game.

But, compared to the linux’, for windows you need to consider the product “activation” key. Windows 10 will run unactivated but will give problems if you plan to use for extended period. There are deeply discounted sites to buy windows activation keys for under $10.

There is a window app that will provide latest windows 10 iso file. I have misplaced the name.

Hi
If the machine has a windows licence then that is usable in a VM… You can just download the iso’s direct from Microsoft.

My desktop with WinX and WinXI running with libvirt (on Tumbleweed though)…

@1chip, this may be of interest https://getlabsdone.com/how-to-install-windows-11-on-kvm/ I used the virtio-win-0.1.208.iso image.

I thought that if you had windows on a machine in a dual boot mode that using that license code in a windows vm would invalidate the installed windows activation. I guess I was wrong.

I did get a deeply discounted windows license (under $10) that activated my windows vm to microsoft’s satisfaction.

thanks for info. But could’ve saved $10.

Hi
Not sure, just use (well vary rare) the vm version at present as have a couple of dual boot laptops if really needed.

No, you were not. Unless you can configure your VM to be identical to your physical system (from licensing perspective), you need separate license.
