Strange problem. I have no sound in my main speakers. They are plugged directly into my snd card. If I plug my headphones into the front panel of my box everything works - including the main speakers. The front jacket is connected to a header on the card. All cli and Yast tests and devises work fine on both the headphones and speakers, as long as the headphones are plugged into the front jack.
Following is the alsa-project URL of the info output and other information. The card is a Xonar DS with a CMI8788 Oxygen HD audio chip and snd-virtuoso is the right driver as far as I know.
