I am going to buy GTS 450 in couple of weeks. AMD 5770 was my first choice. but because of poor amd linux driver, I will buy the nvidia one. My newly amd build pc consists of these components
1 2 Samsung HDD (500+320 GB)
2 one DVD writer
3 Thermal Rock 420 watt PSU (from older pc, bought it about 6 years ago)
4 AMD Phenom x4 965 be
5 gigabyte 88ogm-ud2h
6 800 va UPS
Will my PSU handle GTS 450 along with these components? Or should I buy another PSU.of 500-550 watt?
after buying GTS 450, I may open another thread about installing nvidia driver manually.
Wattage isn’t the only spec to look at. The current capacity is very important. Look on the web for power calculators. The +12v needs the greatest current capiblity
The GTS 450 uses just over 100 watts at full tilt. In general a 400 watt plus power supply should be fine, but I see many recommendations for at least 500 watts. If you have a good brand power supply, it is fine to try it, but having a power supply failure is very bad, trust me on this. Good quality PSU’s are often under rated and use single 12 volt high amp rated rails while cheaper PSU’s use over rated specifications and multiple 12 volt rails of lower power. So, some comparison shopping for a good PSU is required.
Thank You,

There are various generations of power supply, with different connectors
and specifications, so you need to check whether the old supply is
compatible with your new motherboard and graphics card. This article
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATX#Power_supply> has quite a lot of info.
Thank you all. I will go with 500 watt gigabyte/TT/TR PSU.
