Need help with mounted Game disk ISO file being recognized.

I have NWN2 with the first expansion MotB (Mask of the Betrayer) that I’m trying to run along with other games without playing the “disk shuffle game”. I’ve got both games fully installed and if I have the MotB disk in the drive I can usually start the game from the corresponding WINE icon. After a reboot or when waking from suspend I always have to start the game from the disks autorun.exe file for the system to recognize the disk.

My problem is that I’ve mounted an image, ISO file, I made of the disk using K3b. The image is mounted and I’m able to browse it just like a CD/DVD in my disk drive. WINE even recognizes the mounted image and assigns it a drive letter automatically. However if I try to run the game, either from the WINE icon or the Autorun.exe of the mounted image, I always get the “No Disk detected, Please insert the game CD” popup box with the only options being either Retry or Cancel. Any ideas on what I may have done wrong?

I’m running openSUSE 11.1 and have gotten the same result on both the 32 and 64 bit versions. Also, I am mounting the image to the /media folder if that makes a difference?

Thanks.

This probably has nothing to do with the files on the iso, it will be the cd
protection that it is looking for.

This data will not be copied when creating an iso, just have a search for
copy protection or such.

The one good way to get your games to run without having to mount the disk
is to get a “fixed” .exe file from such sites that allow you own a “game”*
and make a “copy”* of it in the real “world” * will not supply a link but
some sites do supply these files so that you can make a copy so that you do
not damage your media with use.

If you do go to such sites then please do not complain if you see things you
are sensitive to, and do not even think of going if you are in using the
other OS as it is not unheard of that they might contain nasties.

I have used many of these though and have not had one bad exe yet.

YMMV

Thanks, yes that would be one of my favorite sites for finding files that have been “corrected” (fixed) to work properly. The problem is that sometimes patches outpace the corrected versions so it is sometimes required for online play to be current on patches; which of course requires a CD/DVD be in a drive or the file is mounted.

It seems to me that if I put a DVD in my disk drive and it’s recognized as “/media/NWN2MOTB” then an image mounted as “/media/NWN2MOTB” should be just as viable. Back when I used XP I could mount an image with DT or 52/120 and it worked just as well as a disk in the drive. I just don’t understand why it wouldn’t work in Linux/WINE if I mapped a WINE drive letter to the correct file folder.

I suspect @baskitcaise is correct. I would check the wine forums for advice.

One of the problems can be because the app that calls for verification off
the CD will probably be hard-coded to look for a cd in drives that are named
like windows ie. C/D/E/F or by looking for a windows mount point.

Now I have not looked into it much so I could be way off base here but if
that is the case then it will no way find it on linux because it will not
understand or comprehend how to find the drive.

as caf says have a look at wine and see if there are any hints or tips on
how to make a mount point look like a windows one I have no idea if this is
possible though.

The window games I use on linux are all no-cd`d and work fine however they
are a bit long in the tooth  or they run naturally under linux like Doom
1/2/3, UT, ET, NWN etc…
