Need help to debug nvidia not used even with open drivers

That is what I installed both and after reboot I installed video,gl and compute

the cuda ones has the broken stuff not working so no cuda added

Only difference I see is open driver 550.100_k6.10.3_1-2.4 and firmware 550.100-3.1 is that a naming typo and that’s why not matching and that’s why not working

The versions are matching fine. No need for new firmware version when driver or kernel gets updated…

@PhatLe Why install these video,gl and compute? These are what the open driver install? The only thing your likely to need is nvidia-compute-utils-G06 for nvidia-smi

this is what the wiki guide says and open driver is only 8.6MB large so guide NVIDIA Open GPU kernel modules: openSUSE/SLE packages available | Stefan’s openSUSE Blog it is little old but still valid i guess and says need to have those video gl and compute

well i went to testing 560 open drivers since 550 is not compability and say need to install

Problem: 1: the to be installed cuda-12.6.0-1.x86_64 requires 'nvidia-open >= 560.28.03', but this requirement cannot be provided
not installable providers: nvidia-open-560.28.03-1.x86_64[cuda]

Solution 1: Following actions will be done:
  install nvidia-compute-G06-560.28.03-0.x86_64 from vendor
    replacing nvidia-compute-G06-550.100-25.1.x86_64 from vendor obs://build.suse.de/Proprietary:X11:Drivers
  install nvidia-gl-G06-560.28.03-0.x86_64 from vendor
    replacing nvidia-gl-G06-550.100-25.1.x86_64 from vendor obs://build.suse.de/Proprietary:X11:Drivers
  deinstallation of nvidia-open-driver-G06-signed-kmp-default-550.100_k6.10.3_1-2.4.x86_64
  install nvidia-video-G06-560.28.03-0.x86_64 from vendor
    replacing nvidia-video-G06-550.100-25.1.x86_64 from vendor obs://build.suse.de/Proprietary:X11:Drivers
  install kernel-firmware-nvidia-gspx-G06-560.28.03-0.x86_64 from vendor
    replacing kernel-firmware-nvidia-gspx-G06-550.100-3.1.x86_64 from vendor openSUSE
Solution 2: do not install cuda-12.6.0-1.x86_64
Solution 3: break cuda-12.6.0-1.x86_64 by ignoring some of its dependencies

@PhatLe ahh wow, what a cludge… and they call it the easy way?

I’ll stick with my so called hard way as it takes a few minutes…

oh well i give up for today since it is not signed drivers, but open still needs to sign them, but i cant find where installer put the keys and it fails each time to sign automatically since it cant get root pasword hash to sign i might start think the old hard way is the new easy way
