Need help to configure sound source

Hi!

Ok, I have Bose 5 Companion usb-speakers and just installed fresh opensuse 12.1. with KDE and cant get the sounds work. However I can hear test sound, on page yast->sound->other. On that page I tried to use this “bose usb audio” as primary sound source, but then I dont hear even the test sound. (Other sound sources i have “intel corporation” and “nvidia corporaton”.)
Could somebody help me please to configure sounds properly?

Please check in System Settings > Hardware > Multimedia > Phonon

There are lots of settings here. But basically you need to make sure your Bose device is the preferred device in the ‘Device Preference’ section

*FYI: This section is a little buggy. Even if you don’t change anything it asks you to save the changes and sometimes the kde crash handler comes up when you exit.

Also check

Right click kmix > Select Master Channel
Select the radio button for Bose device

Also normal click > Mixer >
Make sure your playback device for Bose > Volume is around 80% and not muted

To help configuring, also install the application pulse audio volume control (pavucontrol) and use that to help you tune pulse audio for individual applications. I blogged a bit about this here: Pulseaudio Basics for openSUSE with pavucontrol - Blogs - openSUSE Forums
