Need help playing .wma files

I recently bought an Olympus Digital Voice Recorder mod #VN-8100PC at a yard sale for $3. It works great, has decent online documentation and was a real bargain at that price.

It saves audio files with a .wma extension. When I connect it to my computer, they won’t play. I need additional libraries and gsstreamer it says.

I know absolutely nothing about multimedia although I have been using openSUSE for years. I just read faster than I can watch or listen and my comprehension is better reading, so I never bothered to learn much about audio and video. Now I am ready to learn.

Can someone point me in the right direction to get started?

Thank you. Let me do some reading and diddle around with it some. No doubt I’ll be back with dumb questions.

Instructions in the Media Guide was easy to follow and did what it was supposed to do. The .wma files play perfectly.

A restart was needed after following the instructions.

Thank you for the screenshot page showing exactly how to switch to the Packman repository. With it, the procedure was easy. Without it, it would have been difficult for me. I do not understand exactly what or why but it worked.

Good Work! Thanks to all involved.

The Multimedia Concepts reference was very helpful. It gave me a broad picture of just how complex multimedia really is and the tremendous amount of work necessary to make it usable.
