I while ago I stupidly installed Ubuntu completely on my netbook that came with Windows 7 Starter. I hated the idea of just having starter and not the whole Widows 7 so I decided to switch to Linux. When I downloaded Ubuntu I completely took off Windows I didn’t combine it. I started disliking Ubuntu because I couldnt upload pics from my cam for some reason so I installed openSUSE. I REALLY dislike openSUSE and I want Ubuntu again until I get another laptop or OS for my netbook. I do not understand how to do anything on openSUSE. Can anyone please help me step by step how I go about installing Ubuntu again. I know I’m going to need a flash stick and I do but I have no idea what to do with the ISO or IOS?? file because openSUSE only lets me read whats on the stick not change/delete/add… Help please…
Surely you should be asking in the Ubuntu forums, since the distro you are about to delete has nothing to do with it. Just follow the instructions in the Ubuntu documentation pages and tell it to reformat the whole disk.
If you started disliking Ubuntu for this reason and openSUSE for another reason … you’ll probably dislike (any) Linux until you understand the reason and solve the problem. If you don’t like to solve your problems or lack time and imagination - which is perfectly understandable - and prefer to have your computer thinking in your place (and anticipating your wishes and needs and creating new ones), you’d better off with Windows (bad choice IMHO) or with a MacBook (better choice).
I agree with my peers, I’ve started to use Linux in 2010 and have tried many Linux software. I finally ended up with SUSE which is the best one especially for beginners. It takes a while to get a good understanding how Linux works as you can’t simply compare this with MS. The benefits SUSE offers is very simple, there are thousands of apps you can download it for FREE and yes you need to tryout what works good for you.And there are many users who are very willing to help you in times of need.
If you step back to Ubuntu you will get the same problems as you have now with SUSE, all what you start new is difficult. If you don’t have this time I would simply suggest to go back to MS which is my opinion a bad choice looking at the down times and speed problem from this software.
I would say give it a try and I guaranty you, you will no be disappointed.
At this moment I am a 24 year old woman going through chemotherapy and am tight on money and I shouldn’t have to explain any of this. I cannot AFFORD anything else right now so I thought I would come onto these forums and someone would be nice enough to recommend a site or help me out a bit. All I was wondering is what I had to do to install Ubuntu. I don’t care if I didn’t like it… I want it back because I liked it BETTER. I asked for help. My bad. That’s what I thought the forums were for.
Touchy touchy defending openSUSE. I dont give a **** about the OS I just want to use my computer without having to go all MISSION IMPOSSIBLE just to install a stupid program… I’ll just go to the Ubuntu forums like you just said and hope theyre not all #$^$@%^$%@^ And yes ASAP I will go back to Microsoft because for 1 I am not paying $89863463274 for anything to do with Apple and I’m into graphics not coding… SO thanks…
It really doesn’t matter in the slightest to me what OS you use, but it stands to reason that if you want to install a new distro and wipe out the old one, the instructions you should follow are those of the new distro. But since you seem to have problem finding your way in the Ubuntu documentation, here you are, all I had to do was search for “Ubuntu install from USB stick”.
Let’s be clear here - there’s no reason for you to get defensive of your
question. Everyone here is trying to get you the best help you can for
your situation, but asking for Ubunutu help in the openSUSE forum is
somewhat like asking for Mac OSX help in the Microsoft forums.
People are trying to direct you to the place where you’ll get the best
help for what you’re trying to do.
At the same time, they’re suggesting that because there’s some
commonality in the underlying software between openSUSE and Ubuntu, if
you’re having (say) hardware compatibility issues, you’re likely to be
disappointed because the same kernel (with some different compilation
options) will be used in both distributions - so it might be more
productive to troubleshoot the actual issue rather than hop from one
distribution to another - and then to another - with an increase in
frustration at each step because you’re trying to avoid problems rather
than resolve them.
Similarly, leading off with “I REALLY dislike openSUSE” isn’t likely to
attract help - it’s not particularly germane to your problem, but comes
across as “you guys stink”, which again, isn’t likely to attract people
to help you solve your problem - and of course people are going to react
defensively when that’s the tone of the question being asked.
Now, it seems your underlying issue is that you can’t write to your USB
flash drive. Is that correct?

my Acer Aspire One absolutely FLIES with openSUSE 11.4 (but it crawled
to a stand still with Win7 Starter…what a pig that is)…
but, if you are unwilling or unable to learn about Linux i’d guess you
would be best off going to the store and spending (what is it now) $400
