need cheap printer

hi all,
I run both Windows 7 Pro 64 bit and OpenSuse 12.2 x86-64 Gnome on the same network. I need a cheap b&w laser printer that will work with both of these two oses across the network doesn’t have to be wireless, hopefully that I can get at WalMart or somewhere for little money that is basically plug and play for the newer 64 bit versions of the oses. Any suggestions that you know will ABSOLUTELY work? (personal experience is best?) with as little fuss as possible?

thanks,
crsj

ps. will be upgrading to 12.3 when it comes out too.

I own a Brother DCP-7055DN printer/scanner which was bought at a reasonable price and very reliable… It only has USB connectivity, but there is now a DCP-7065DN model, which has a built-in Ethernet network interface, and Brother provides good Linux drivers too.

I have an HP p1606dn that I bought fairly recently. It has both wired and USB
interfaces. Mine is connected via the wire where I use it with Linux, and my
wife has Windows 7 - both 32- and 64-bit. I chose it because it has the built-in
duplexer so that we can print on both sides of the paper.

What do you mean by “cheap”? What price range? Before you buy a printer, have a
look at openprinting.org’s printer database to check on Linux comparability.

I’ve been using a Brother MFC-7820N as a network printer for over 5 years, works
fine with Linux (Brother Driver). Surprisingly it is still available for about
$130.00 US. When you buy a printer don’t just look at the price of the printer
but also the cost of toner (or ink) cartridges. These can be very pricey and
short lived. In the long run you may pay more for the cheap printer than for
the more expensive model.
