Need assistance with PCI Raid card

Hi - I’m a first time Linux user, and I’ve managed to fuddle my way through fair bit of the OS so far, but I’ve got a problem that I can’t seem to find any information on.

Here’s what I’ve got: a PCI raid card, Silicon Image 680 chipset. YaST2 hardware information reports it as a “Winic W-680”, and seems to recognize it. However, none of the hard drives I hook up appear to register with Linux, whether I have them in a Raid set or not.

I’m using KDE, and I’ve checked for the drives with the Partitioner in YaST - is there somewhere else I should be looking? Any insight as to what might be happening? Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks!

Alright, so I changed my hardware configuration and discovered that this problem applies to any secondary hard drive I throw into my system. I attached a second hard drive to the same cable as my boot drive (same make and model of hard drive, even), and my BIOS recognizes it, but Suse doesn’t seem to acknowledge its existence. All that shows up in Partitioner or Hardware Information is my boot drive.

This second drive was used in Windows before, so it’s NTFS formatted, but I should at least be able to see it somewhere so I can format it for Linux, right?

I’m probably missing something really basic, but according to this post, it really shouldn’t be any more complex than what I’m doing:

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
