Need a working replacement for WMM

I have installed the following software to attempt to replace windows media player:

Pivito (won’t open), OpenMovieEditor (won’t open), I’m working with Kino right now. Hopefully although when I export a portion of a video there isn’t any sound. I’m thinking there’s something I’m doing wrong. Going to try and find a tutorial.

I want to post some video’s on line without using Windows.

The mplayer/mencoder combo should be fine for doing that.

mencoder indeed is one of the finest, but one should be used to write three-line-commands to use it. I found Kino even harder to be managed…

Try Avidemux (packages: ‘avidemux’ and ‘avidemux-gtk’), for it’s a relatively easy tool to cut, merge and reencode pretty much any video-format.

For playing video, the smplayer front end to MPlayer is very nice.
