Gentlemen, Before I present my call for help, I would like to state that I spend several hours searching this forum plus the Web before requesting any help.
I have had 12.1 32 bit on my Acer Aspire 1804 ( 2 gig of ram, ATI X600 dedicated 128 megs VR and 40 gb 7200 rpm, far superior to most of the plastic fantastics on sale at present) for a couple of days and am very impressed with it. I also had 12.1 64 bit on a desktop but because of video card driver probs, ( which several of the kind people of this forum helped me with, after three days of trying I pulled out of because I was afraid I was stretching friendship, again a big thanks to them ) I put back in the cupboard and turned to the Acer.
I was impressed with how easy the wlan is to configue. Initially I had a Pluscom USB wireless adapter ( kept dropping packets) replaced it with a Belkin which cured the prob.
I then decided to have a crack at configuring the on board wireless card, namely a [AirConn] INPROCOMM IPN 2220 Wireless LAN Adapter. Never having done this I anticipated the task ahead somewhat daunting, however, after following the SBD-Ndiswrapper instructions I had it up and running in about 30 minutes.
The only prob is that it doesn’t boot automatically. I boot the browser and it can’t find the server so I go into yast/network settings then at Network Initialization it hangs and a box appears telling me , there is a ndiswrapper configuration detected. But the kernel not modprobed. I click yes I’m on the net.
I googled the prob and added ndiswrapper to the /etc/sysconfig Editor. But alas the prob is still there.
Can someone tell me what to do next, please.
Eddie.
Gentlemen, I have discovered that all that is required for the wlan to work is for "modprobe ndiswrapper ", to be typed in bash/root and I’m on the net.
Can someone tell me where I need to place this?
Fixed. Added modprobe ndiswrapper to etc/init.d/before.local
You should check this page: SDB:ndiswrapper.
What helped in my case (AVM!Fritz WLAN USB-Stick):
- Modulname in yast is now ndiswrapper and not fwlan any more.
- Yast-setup is for static IP by default. I needed to switch this to DHCP.
My stick is now working fine without any modprobe ndiswrapper in external scripts. I am very happy about that!
