ndiswrapper from hardware repo is outdated

Hi,

Short Questions:
openSUSE 13.2, 32 bit
The kernel moduls of ndiswrapper have not been updated yet since they are build to be compatible to Kernel 3.16.6.6-2, however currently we are at 3.16.7-21.

Any chance this packages will get an update or do i have to build ndiswrapper by my self?

Thanks in advanced for reply

Possibly not because there are now so few uses for ndiswrapper. Or am I being too pessimistic?

The kernel modules should work anyway.
It is openSUSE’s update policy that kernel updates have to be compatible enough so that you don’t have to rebuild kernel modules. Actually the previous kernel update has been retracted as it was incompatible…

If it does not work, you should file a bug report.

OTOH, of which ndiswrapper kernel modules are you talking about? AFAICS they are not part of the distribution any more.
If you mean some external OBS repo, then this repo probably builds against standard openSUSE 13.2 and not against openSUSE:13.2:Update. So the packages will never get “updated” for the newer kernel.
But again, it should not matter.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

That’s right.

Im using the ndiswrapper packes from this hardware repositry:

http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/hardware/

I need these packages for a Marvell card (mrv8335)

Previously the kernel update that got revoked it was working.
ndiswrapper made the card usuable.
To load the ndiswrappper module on start i put a “ndiswrapper.conf” file (contained “ndiswrapper”) at “etc/modules-load.d/”

But again, it should not matter.

You are right this one too, i checked my machine again and the ndiswrapper module indeed got load. Sorry for not looking that up at after the last kernel update.

I have to track down now why my (gnome) network manager applet is not seeing the card then
