I can see the wirless newtwork but when I try to connect to it, and typed the WPA/WPA2 password. Nothing happened?
I tried to edit the connection in KDE Control Module “Edit Network Connection” and prapered the connection with the right SSID and Encryption and the password.
Bus still nothing happend.
I did every thing mentioned here: “My wireless doesn’t work - a primer on what I should do next”
On openSUSE-11.3 RC2 KDE, with my Intel(R) Wireless WiFi 5300AGN (very similar to your 5100AGN) I typically do the following to connect immediately after booting:
disable kwallet (Kmenu > configure desktop > advanced > Kde wallet and disable it)
configure the knetworkmanager in the lower right corner for my wireless. Select the encryption, ssid, enter password … Be certain to set it to ‘auto reconnect’ (or whatever that setting is called … I don’t have my laptop with the 5300AGN powered right now) - that point is critical
it will fail to connect - thats expected
open a terminal and type ‘ps -A’ and determine the PID number of knetworkmanager - say (for example) its 777
kill knetworkmanager with “kill -9 777” #where ‘777’ is just an example number
as a regular user restart knetworkmanager in a terminal by typing: knetworkmanager

You have not asoociated/authenticated. Check the output of the dmesg
command to see what it says. In addition, check the contents of
/var/log/NetworkManager.

HI lwfinger and MIH1406
I can scan and see the networks.I have tried to connect in vain.I have checked that Kwallet is installed in yast2.I have tried to configure authentification in knetworkmanager. All these have failed. Also the small icon for network is still not showing(lefthand corner) yet it was there some days back to show wired or wired conn. Also am having a wpa key, this is only made up of alphabet letters right? Also,in Knetwork manager,Edit>General>Activate Device> is it OK to select the option at boot time or On Cable connection?
>>I have disabled the encryption on my AP as well and altered knetman. configuration but still no connection and failure when i tried to ping router?whats going on??
Cheers

Select “On Cable Connection” for wired interfaces and “Boot time” for any
wireless units. The wired one will always take precedence.
The WPA/WPA2 key can be any combination of letters, numbers, or special characters.
In YaST => Network Devices => Network Settings, have you selected NetworkManager
in the Global Tab? If so, you should create the connection from the “Manage
Connections” option of the applet.
HI lwfinger
I have tried the steps above.Up to now,I cant connect.Even ping to router all packets lost.
There is still no network icon in the taksbar,I used to have this showing wired conn properties.
Also when I started the conn.applet and configured the wireless conn.,a pop came up saying network…disable(didnt get a chance to read it well),could this explain the above sentence?
Also in the configuration, below"connect automatically" the “system connection” tab is not checked and I cant check it.
In the Network serveices>Overview,my BCM4312…b/g(Not Connected).Why?p.s I first re enabled ifup to check it.
Cheers

Please post the output of
dmesg | egrep "b43|ssb"
A disabled wireless network usually means a problem with firmware or some other
difficulty in loading the driver.
HI
for this there is no output,I have also tried to search the output for b43 and ssb but nothing.I had some fields with b43.phy some days back but I have done over 100 different things since then from loading firmware to drivers to ndiswrapper etc. From the output for your code,I have taken out this

What can I do,should I just go ahead and start to upgrade the kernel?
Cheers for your help
