Did you click on “Manage Connections” in the NM applet and add a wireless
connection. I have an RTL8187B and it works.
maybe you need first associate your wireless card to a network first:
iwconfig <wlan0> essid <your wireless network name>
rcnetwork restart
above is for my wireless network, I am lazy :-), if you want more options for your wireless, the better you can search the opensuse user guide for how to configure wireless?
I just installed opensuse for the first time myself. does it not scan for available networks? when i ran the live CD on the laptop i was unable to see any wireless networks which i can normally see about five.
