For use to help much, we need to know just what you got. I have a bash script here that loads a nice hardware info script you can find here:
H.I. Hardware Information - A Bash script to install and run inxi with default options! - Blogs - openSUSE Forums
I have another useful in testing your sound hardware:
S.T.A.R.T. - SuSE Terminal Audio Reporting Tool - Version 1.15 - Blogs - openSUSE Forums
Using the HI script and INXI, here is what I see on my PC:
Audio: Card-1: Creative Labs X-Fi Titanium series [EMU20k2] driver: snd_ctxfi Sound: ALSA ver: k3.7.0-rc3-2.16-desktop
Card-2: NVIDIA GF110 High Definition Audio Controller driver: snd_hda_intel
Show us what you got if you don’t mind. And for all things about PulseAudio here is another blog you have got to read:
Pulseaudio Basics for openSUSE with pavucontrol - Blogs - openSUSE Forums
Thank You,

Here is the Audio report:
Card-1: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Juniper HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 5700 Series] driver: snd_hda_intel
Card-2: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA) driver: snd_hda_intel
Sound: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture ver: 1.0.25
The sound device that you use should be listed as card 1. That is set in YaST / Hardware / Sound with device 0 being the default. In PulseAudio, Make sure the device that you do not use has the profile set of off.
Thank You,
