My mouse is acting weird...

My mouse recently started to act weird…
I can move my cursor but I can’t click on links/buttons…etc.
However, if I try to use my keyboard (keyboard shortcuts) it works.
I’l tell you one scenario,
if I toggle from one tab to another in firefox, I can’t use my mouse but I can use alt+tab in keyboard.

I did some virus scanning using avg but it wont work.
Wht seems to be the problem?
I hope you guys can help me.
I came to think of registering to some forums like this to help me with my problem.
Thanks a lot!

Hi,

regards
Gilles

Do either of you have PS/2 port mice you can try?

To Gilles:
I’m using a generic brand mouse. I don’t think it’s the hardware. I suspect it’s a software related problem, a virus perhaps. Sometimes software complications are harder to figure out. Anyhow, I ran another virus scanning yesterday and I think it somehow solved the problem. As of now, my mouse is working pretty well.

there are no know virus in Linux which will affect your mouse, or
anything else…

what version of openSUSE are you using?
what desktop environment? (KDE3, KDE4, Gnome, other??)

try turning off desktop effects, and see if the problem goes away…
