My Epson D68 doesn't seem to be recognized!!!

Hi there,
Can anyone tell me what I shoud do to get my system to recognise my Epson D68 printer?! It doesn’t appear in the CUPS listings (although it’s a very common printer…), CUPS proposed me to install what I thought was an equivalent… but it doesn’t do anything at all. I’ve downloaded the manufacturers drivers for linux, but YAST bugged, saying that this:

libgdk-1.2.so.0
libglib-1.2.so.0
libgmodule-1.2.so.0
libgtk-1.2.so.0
libpng.so.3

Was missing to get the install to work (if I undestand well…)

Has anyone experienced anything like this before? Please help me!

David

are you just new to linux?

I would suggest there are two main options:

  1. a quick and effective solution would be to go here:ZEDOnet | TurboPrint Linux | TurboPrint - hiqh quality printer drivers for Linux which is turboprint; they started in the 1980s doing printer drivers for the Amiga computer; which sadly expired in 1994; you can download a free edition, which gives you limited printing; for the price of several cups of latte coffee, or a linux magazine, you can pay them and download a fully working version; we use it to run a CanonPIXMA printer, and the upgraded 2.0 version shows inklevels etc etc; it has always worked very well for us;

turboprint should not have any of the dependency issues you seem to have had

  1. the above will work quickly and well; if you wish to spend much more of your own time, go here: OpenPrinting database - Printer: Epson Stylus D68 this is the D68 page of the OpenPrinting website: I understand OpenSuse uses what is called the 3.1 version of LSB; you need to be sure whether your system was set up as 32bit or 64 bit, and you then download the 3.1 LSB rpm appropriate for 32 or 64 bit from the detailed list; and install gutenprint;and see how that goes …
