My DVD drive start working bad recently in KDE 4.4.3

Hi everybody.

I have like a month using the KDE 4.4 from factory without problems since a month to now, but suddenly, since yesterday KDE doesnt mount my DVDs or CDs in my internal drive, and of course, doesnt burn anything, so i was wondering if this has something to do with the fact that im using factory or its a known bug or what should i check?

I have dual boot in this computer, and in win the drives works without problem.

Should i go back to KDE 4.3.5?

If you need some output or something tellme, all i can say know is that appears an error when i excute the command “eject” about something going wrong with ioclt… But it appears some times, and others dont.

What could be =?

Thanks in advance!

I have kde4 from factory too and do not have a problem.

Inset a audio CD, open dolphin and in the location bar put:

audiocd:/

does it open the files in the cd?

I have found the messages. This appears with ANY disc that I insert:

  310.175655] sr 3:0:0:0: [sr0] Unhandled sense code
  310.175662] sr 3:0:0:0: [sr0] Result: hostbyte=DID_OK driverbyte=DRIVER_SENSE

310.175686] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 165913

I thought that was a hardware problem, but in Win, the drive works perfect :frowning:

What could be?

Is the device on it’s own data cable to the Mobo?

Yes, its a SATA Drive with its own cable to the mobo. Today i see that are “some” discs that aren’t working, DVD’s and Old Cd’s works.

Weird, in Win it works everything :frowning:

Please try just commercially made dvd/cd’s - are all these OK?

Yes! Those works.

The I suggest that the discs that don’t may have been burned in windows and possibly in particular with Roxio?

The disk are burned with K3B, all of them, in Linux. I have almost a Year without using Win to anything else than play some games. I just use Win to test the disk because i was thinking that could be a hardware failure, but the weird thing is that i burn everything with K3B.

Ok
Sorry for offending youlol!

You need to analyse what difference there are in what works and what doesn’t.
This is a strange one.

Hahaha! What offence?

And true, this is a strange one :frowning:

What about a blank DVD
Does k3b pick it up?

Well, DVD’s works fine, the deal its with the CD’s apparently.

Check this: If i put a blank CD, the system show “New Blank Medium”, it let me copy a new CD, make the data verification, and again works everywhere, but in openSUSE no.

So in resume:

  • The drive let me burn CD’s
  • The drive doesn’t read the CD’s in openSUSE (only old ones or original)
  • The drive let me burn/read DVD’s in openSUSE without problems
  • The drive doesn’t have any problem to read/write those CD’s in Win (even the ones recently burned in oS with K3B)

If we did this already forgive me…

If one of the CD’s you have that it will not read is an audio cd

What happens in dolphin if you do this in the address bar:

audiocd:/

The next thing to consider is, the media type. Is there anything in the media type that makes it different do you think to those it does read.

You say it will let you burn a CD.
But on read one… … so
If you burn one, will it then read it?

If i put audiocd:/ works.

If its a data disk, don’t work.

Then, i burn a CD, verify the data after burned (with the check option in k3b to check the data), then after the burn its done it ejects the disk, then i put it back again, and nothing, doesn’t show anything, but if I use the same disk in Win, i can access the burned info (from k3b).

I’m totally lost here :S

So the audio cd can be read in dolphin. Have you tried playing it via amarok?

I must say I am rather puzzled as to what is going on here.

I can tell you I never verify any of my discs, not that I imagine this is related, but thought I would comment.

Go to system settings > Advanced tab
Removable devices

Have you enabled auto mounting?

It plays without problem in Amarok.

I have downgraded my KDE to 4.3.5 to test all this and its the same.

I cant find that automonting option that you mention. :frowning:

The auto mount is in kde4.4>
So in 4.3 you’ll not see it.
