My desktop "leaks" from lock screen after opening lid / returning from sleep

I’m using OpenSUSE Slowroll with KDE Plasma.

My laptop (Dell XPS 9530) is configured to sleep when I close the lid. It is also configured to lock screen after returning to sleep and also after 5 minutes of inactivity.

When I open the lid, my desktop will sometimes display for about 1 second before the screen actually locks up and asks for a password.

So, I say this “leaks” what is on my desktop, basically.

This happens sporadically. Sometimes it’s for just a fraction of a second.

I think you are seeing what is in the video buffer from your prior session.

This is not desirable behavior.

You can try reporting that as a bug. You might be advised to report upstream.

It doesn’t happen here, because I never sleep my system. I have my laptop configured to shutdown rather than sleep.

Hello,
with an old Toshiba with Leap 15.5 + Gnome and similar configuration (sleep at closing the lid and auto-lock within minutes), I sometimes experienced that “leak” to.
I think nrickert is true about the buffer because I remember this happened when I closed the lid “brutally” but not when I manually lock the session before closing the lid (this can be a workaround, before the bug is corrected).

Add : it seems this issue is not even OpenSuse specific. I found 2 topics in Mint forums : in 2018 and in 2024.

Why not clear the buffer before going to sleep or locking the screen then?

Where should I report this?
