Hi;
Recently I purchased an Android tablet, 7" ICS (4.0.4).
I remember when I opened HotSpot from my openSUSE 12.2 installation, my friend with another tablet was able to connect it and surf the net.
However, I can’t now connect to the listed Wi-Fi.
Yes, my android device sees the Wi-Fi and lists it successfully, and accepts the password and saves it, but never gets to the point of connection.
I have read somewhere that Android devices can only connects to infastructure and not Ad-hoc, however my friend’s tablet was able to connect.
Yes, many Android tablets only support infrastructure mode wireless connectivity, (although there are ways around this, such as rooting the phone for example).
Yes, I played around with Hostapd for a while and managed to get it working properly. Now not only my Android device, but also my father’s Samsung S8000 Jet can connect internet via my laptop’s hotspot broadcast.
