I downloaded the newly released openSUSE 12.1-64 and
installed it on my laptop
computer model: ACER ASPIRE 8943G, 64 bit
Processor: Intel Core i7-720QM
Recording an audio stream with audacity works,
but unfortunately the sound from the built-in
microphone is also recorded, resulting in a
very ugly replay quality.
In the old KDE 3.5 GUI, there was a switch on
the kmix application that could mute the built-in
mike, but such a switch does apparently not exist
in the new system.
Does anybody know how to mute the microphone?
There may be some such function elsewhere in the
system, but I have not been able to detect where
or how.
Did you try to install the application ‘pavucontrol’ and run it when your application is playing (where the mic is recording) and use it to mute the mic ?
Thanks for the answer.
I spent some hours with pavucontrol, but could not mute the
microphone. However, I did find an answer to the problem:
Pavucontrol offers three options for input: Internal Mic,
analog mic and Line input. I set it to the last option,
line input. then by means of a fork cable I sent the out signal
back to the line input port for recording. The other fork used for
listening. This works perfectly.
I hope that some day kmix will offer the microphone mute switch
again, to avoid these external cable connections. More elegant.
