Must I have packman repo to open/convert HEIC files?

I have survived for the past 2 or 3 years without using packman repo since I already use quite a lot flatpak packages. Today I was looking for solutions to make HEIC openable, and found only one solution which is to install libheif in the packman repo.
I don’t want to add a repo just for one package.
Any suggestion?

The native libheif1 packages don’t work. I have them installed too but they don’t seem to do anything.
It was said in another thread that only packages in the packman repo can enable you to open heic files.

@aggie It is clearly written in the package description that libheif1 (openSUSE package) only provides AVIF support but not HEIF…

Too bad the native version doesn’t work. Maybe one day, they will catch up

For me, I use Darktable and DigiKam, installed as FlatPaks, and they open *.heic files … so no reliance on Packman (which I avoid).

My digikam from flatpak can’t open heic files either. Not sure what’s missing.

After reboot flatpak digikam works fine to read and convert .heic files now.

Libheif1 from Packman has the same description, but works…
