A great lightweight alt. is zinf
it’s in Packman repo
Something must be misconfigured. Whose amarok are you using? The packman packaged? The Novell/SuSE-GmbH packaged? You can check the version by typing in a gnome-terminal or konsole:
rpm -q amarokNote Amarok can be mistakenly misconfigured by users to search your entire hard drive, each time you run, for new audio, and if you do not like that as it takes too much time, you should be able to configure Amarok NOT to do that.
At home I have amarok running on my old athlon-1100 with 1GByte of RAM, and I can be downloading with bittorrent at full speed, backing up files over our home LAN, chatting on IRC chat, and have amarok play music, all at the same time, with no noticeable slow down in amarok playback. So IMHO if that works on my much older and less capable PC, then the likelyhood that something is misconfigured on your’s should not be overlooked.
