Music library missing

My music library is gone from Banshee and Amarok. Neither seems to detect the tracks doing a scan. The files are where they have always been, but I can only play individual songs. In Banshee, I’ve tried a rescan, import folders and deleting the data files. Is there anything else to try?

Try creating a new user account. And set up amarok. What happens? (we can delete this account after)

Same thing is happening in a test account.

So you can delete that now if you like,no need to keep it’s files either.

We now know it’s not user settings.

The files are readable etc… still there!? (sorry, have to ask)

What version of openSUSE, are you using gnome or kde/4

Have you done anything recently (housekeeping, updates…)

Amarok /does/ work in the test account, but not Banshee. I missed a step. I’m using Gnome 2.28 on 11.2, and this just happened today. As near as I can tell all of the files are readable, I can open and play single songs. I haven’t done anything unusual today, but banshee crashed before this problem came up. It wouldn’t start properly, and I killed it.

This changes things then.

Try amarok again in your normal account after deleting:

.kde4/share/config/amarok-appletsrc
.kde4/share/config/amarok_homerc
.kde4/share/config/amarokrc

That did it for Amarok. I’d still like to have Banshee working, do you have any suggestions there? I’ve deleted ‘~/.config/banshee-1’ and ‘~/.cache/banshee-1.’ Can you think of any others?

Trouble with gnome it has more than one dot folder… hang on and I’ll see…

      • Nine Inch Nails

It will import files from the artist directories containing the songs, but not “music,” or genres. This is new, and I haven’t updated anything today.

Was this after you deleted
.gconf/apps/banshee-1
and
‘~/.config/banshee-1’ and ‘~/.cache/banshee-1.’

When you remove all those, does it behave as if you never used it before? So you have to setup the music directory etc…

Everything is default except the music directory. Strangely, this is not changed after deleting the settings files.
