Multiple sound problem

Hello folks,

When I play a song with amarok (kde3 version), all other sound players including flash websites and mplayer don’t give sound output. My opensuse is 11.1 and sound card which is on Dell Latitude d600 is “82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC’97 Audio Controller Driver snd-intel8x0”. What can I do about it? Thanks.

No idea, but you could:

  1. check if KDE’s sound system is enabled/disabled, it’s for the old OSS sound system, so it should be disabled, I think.

  2. Check SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE as recommend by oldcpu in the multimedia subforum sticky.

  3. Post there after you follow the troubleshooting procedures above, with more about what you did and the results you got.

Pulse audio was supposed to make this easy, but pulse has problems and and do not know how well this sort of multiple audio works on all platforms under pulse. It works on mine.

Before pulse audio, the way to do this, was to select the alsa-api in each multimedia application, as the alsa-api would permit multiple applications to play audio at the same time.
