Multiple monitors problems after recent 12.1 updates

I have been using two monitors (one DVI and one VGA connected) on a 12.1 machine for a while. After installation of many updates from Online Update about one week ago, one monitor stopped to work. The two monitors are listed in Hardware Info, but System Settings > Multiple Monitors says: This module is only for configuring systems with a single desktop spread across multiple monitors. You do not appear to have this configuration. A Win7 test shows both monitors have got no problem.

OS Information
Linux 3.1.10-1.9-desktop x86_64
System: openSUSE 12.1 (x86_64)
KDE: 4.7.2 (4.7.2) “release 5”
Display Info
Vendor: nVidia Corporation
Model: GT200 [GeForce 210]
2D driver: nvidia
3D driver: NVIDIA 295.49

Can anyone shed some light on this problem? Many thanks!

I have that card and two monitors. I have only limited success with the KDE utility. Instead I use the utility nvidia-settings to set up dual screens. I run it with the CLI command nvidia-settings. After I’m happy with the layour I save the setup file (that nvidia-settings generates ) and name it as xorg.conf and locate it in the directory /etc/X11. On reboot (or re-login) the settings are permanently activated (via the file xorg.conf).

PS packman repo supplies nvidia-settings

Thanks a lot! It brings the monitor backlol! but when I save the xorg.conf, it says Unable to open X config file ‘/et/X11/xorg.conf’ for writing. Could you please show me how to save it?

Save the file as xorg.conf somewhere handy e.g. your Desktop. Open a
console and enter this command to open Dolphin with rootly powers:

kdesu dolphin /home

Then navigate in dolphin to wherever you left the file e.g. your desktop
and R-clcik copy it. And navigate to /etc/X11 and “paste” it there.

Should be good to go now.

Done with two working monitors! lol! Embarrassed to say that I didn’t realise the copy&paste trick:shame:
Much appreicated, swerdna.
