I have two laptops, both running OS 12.1. One has no problems.
The second laptop has multiple issues with. Earlier there was OS 11.4. I’ve made upgrade to 12.1. (I also tried to set up 12.1 from disk formatting /. The result was nearly the same as after upgrading from 11.4).
Problems:
-
Maybe the most annoying bug in 12.1. In KDE I often cannot logout, shutdown or reboot. /sbin/shutdown works fine though. Sometimes I can shutdown from KDE. I cannot understand and reproduce the reasons by now. I have this problem only in 12.1.
-
In KDE I see artifacts like this or this. Sometimes windows are rendered upside down at first (nearly 0.5 sec). These artifacts I see in KDE 4.7.2 with OS 12.1.

Next bug is also related to 12.1. Touchpad tapping is disabled. When I save settings it taps ok. After reboot there are two possible scenarios. 1) Touchpad tapping is disabled some minutes after login (hard drive activity is high after login for some reasons and almost freezes my laptop in 12.1), then touchpad tapping works. 2) Touchpad tapping stays disabled even after several minutes. I go to KDE settings and see tapping disabled, change this and voila - it works again… until the next reboot. Or not?

The next problem is related to radeon driver. I don’t know should it be filed as a bug report to freedesktop.org, but… In 11.4 as well as in 12.1 I experience problem with suspend/resume. Laptop suspends, but when I try to resume it, I see only a blank screen with a mouse cursor. In Gnome openSUSE live CD the problem remains. In Fedora16 too. In OS 11.2 KDE suspend did not work at all: screen was locked on suspend. My experiments show that it is related to problems with KMS and radeon driver. In tty1 I see scrolling messages [drm:radeon_ib_schedule] ERROR radeon: couldn’t schedule IB(0), [drm:radeon_ib_schedule] ERROR radeon: couldn’t schedule IB(1),…,[drm:radeon_ib_schedule] ERROR radeon: couldn’t schedule IB(15). In 11.4 there were 2 another Error messages. This led to artifacts in KDE after reboot: horizontal lines on plasma panels, menus, etc. Ctrl+Alt+Backspace and a reboot helped me to remove those artifacts almost every time. Even in init 1 when I use s2ram and try resuming the result is the same - [drm:radeon_ib_schedule] ERROR radeon: couldn’t schedule IB(0) (OS 12.1). I tried to install kernel 3.1.8. The bug is not fixed there. In /var/log/Xorg.0.log there are errors:
** 54.726] (EE) Failed to load module “fglrx” (module does not exist, 0)
54.778] (EE) FATAL: RadeonHD presently does not work with kernel modesetting (KMS).**
OK, I don’t know if somebody can help me with all those problems. The 4th issue maybe should be reported to freedesktop.org. How can I do that? What additional info should be provided?
Issues 1-3 are related only to OS 12.1. I’d like to solve them with your help. What info is needed? Sorry for bad English.
