My Creative Zen Xtra just died (starting throwing firmware errors).
I am looking for something that can run on Linux (home) and Windoze (work). I would ideally like it to be 40GB or bigger.
I care nothing about movies/videos. I just want it to play music.

Well, the best bar none is the Cowon A2 (no longer made).
But there is the Cowon A3 and the O2. I mention those
in particular because the not only work well with
Linux but run Linux.
The Archos line also runs on Linux, but reliability
is iffy.
I have used the Creative Xen (not all are the same),
Sansa e2xxx series,
some generic no name players, Archos 504 and
the Cowon A2 (my fav) without issue.
But the Cowon may be a bit large if all you want
is music. I like the ability to play (and with
the A2, record) video as well.
