Multimedia 42.2

Hi!

After I upgrade from 42.1 to 42.2 some multimedia codecs don’t work anymore. I have tried the “traditional multimedia installation” but there is something wrong.

What can be?

packman is not up to 42.2 yet they will be after official release

You may be able to improve matters until then by adding the
multimedia:libs

Thanks. I already use the multimedia:libs, but mp4 still not working.

Of course not.
The openSUSE packages do not and cannot include support for restricted codecs for legal reasons. And that includes multimedia:libs, building them is just forbidden on OBS.

And actually I would rather recommend against using multimedia:libs (unless you know what you are doing), as it can easily break your multimedia capabilities because it only contains “crippled” packages but often in a newer version then Packman even (it is the devel project for Factory/Tumbleweed).

AFAIK, some people have reported success with Packman for 42.1 or the VideoLAN repo.

But it’s only a few days until 42.2 will be released and Packman should be available as well then…

Thanks. Yeap, in fact, packman 42.1 is working well.

This can be true for now, but change the repo URL as soon as the Packman guys open the 42.2 repo for business

But that’s about MP3 only, not other codecs (video in particular).

MP3 support (for gstreamer at least) is included in the distribution anyway though.
And it won’t help with 42.2, which is to be released next week…

I get it! Thanks.
