I’m very interested in using the new(ish) MPX capabilities of the mainline Xorg server. I’ve tried rewriting the configuration file, but my understanding of it seems insufficient. I’m not clear on the device hierarchy and such (still so much to learn after using Linux for so long!)
So I’m wondering if anyone has MPX working under openSUSE. I’m not really looking for much guidance, but hoping to get some idea of how practical it is for me to try to get this running. I know KDE et al are not currently able to make proper use of multiple pointers, but I have some software ideas of my own if I can figure out how to access the dratted pointer devices. Anyway…

Really don’t know but I found this MPX has been merged but the strange thing is from my quick look the Suse xinput doesn’t have --create-master. Now checking versions vs one that does I noticed Xorg server 1.6.5(Suse) vs 1.7.5(rc 1) think you may need to find when the commit was done.
I’ve not checked the Xorg repo and my 11.2 is pretty vanilla and needs updating but I doubt that we have had a major number increase.
Hmmm, well spotted. I’d sort of assumed, since the commit was… I think May of last year… that we’d have it in 11.2.
This being the case then, I need to figure out where to get 7.5 from in a convenient form.
After that seeming as xinput is on the fly I suspect it is in xorg.conf but the exact syntax eludes me. What I did find was this page here How to configure the TrackPoint - ThinkWiki the interesting bit is how the xinput commands relate to the xorg.conf further down, but that is set-prop any way perhaps that’ll help later. Then I presume it could also be configured via hal again I have no like for like examples.
